Previous PaintingNext Painting Night Out In Media The Media Theatre was built in 1927 as a house for vaudeville, then still a vital form of touring entertainment. Soon silent movies overtook the stage. The theater changed too, becoming a movie house and showing for its first engagement the famous Al Jolson film The Jazz Singer. With the Depression came uncertainty and several more transitions. By the 1950s, the Media Theatre was strictly a movie house, and ultimately closed for a long period in the ‘70s. In the 1990s, Walter Strine, Sr., who had successfully created a community theater in Milton, Pa, restored the theater as a venue for live theater and stage performances.
