Reprinted from Town Talk Newspapers
February 11, 2003, Media, Pa: Delaware County artist George H Rothacker,
will be raising funds for the Colonial
Theatre in Phoenixville with the sale of theatre prints during the
theatre’s 100th anniversary. On February 23rd from 3:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m. he will be signing prints of his 1958 depiction of the theatre
as it appeared in Steve McQueen’s movie “The Blob.”
The signing will be in conjunction of a viewing of Jeffrey Mullen’s
video documentary, “Phoenixville, a Portrait of an American Town”
showing at 4:30 p.m. with tickets priced at $5.00 ea.
This is Rothacker’s 11th painting in his series of theatres, and
a limited edition of 500 signed, numbered and titled prints will be
available at an introductory price of $50. 1/2 of the funds raised will
help to support the next phase of renovations to the Colonial Theatre.
Renovations will include the opening the balcony to the public, the
expansion of the rest rooms and the re-roofing of the 100-year-old vaudeville
house.

conjunction with a community fundraiser to preserve the local movie
house. Other theaters include the Anthony

“I’ve always enjoyed painting scenes of the 1930s, 40s and
50s,” said Mr. Rothacker. “I enjoy incorporating classic
cars, old buildings and memorabilia my paintings. I also am pleased
when funds can go to benefit a theater’s restoration.”
