Previous PaintingNext Painting The Mayland Red Sox centerfielder Jim Piersall met the crowd at the Mayland and answered questions after the 1957 premier of Fear Strikes Out, the movie starring Anthony Perkins which was based on his book. During the 1950s and ‘60s the “wedding cake” style Mayland was a favorite showplace of adults and children alike. According to Sheldon Green, a Mayfield Heights resident of that time,“People often sat in the aisles during “sold out” performances such as I did at It’s a Mad Mad Mad World, when it appeared.” At the time of this painting, the Mayland was unoccupied, but the building still stands and is currently for rent (2002). |
